Uses
To help establish an accurate diagnosis for many medical
problems, such as pernicious anemia, malabsorption, iron
metabolism, cancer, abscess, infection, cerebrospinal fluid
flow, blood volume, kidney diseases, lung diseases, pancreas
diseases, red blood cell disorders, spleen diseases, thyroid
diseases, thyroid cancer, brain diseases or tumor, bladder
diseases, eye tumors, liver diseases, heart diseases, bone
diseases, bone marrow diseases.
Dosage & Usage Information
How to take:
As directed by nuclear medicine specialist. Most are given
intravenously by the doctor, some are taken by mouth.
Drink lots of liquids and urinate often after test to decrease
possible radiation effect on the kidneys and urinary bladder.
When to take:
According to individual instructions.
If you forget a dose:
Take as soon as you remember.
What drug does:
Very small quantities of radioactive substances concentrate in
various organs of the body and become measurable. Pictures or

Before you start, consult your doctor:

Over age 60:
Adverse reactions and side effects may be more frequent and
severe than in younger persons. Ask doctor about smaller doses.
Pregnancy:
Avoid during pregnancy if possible.
Breast-feeding:
Drug passes into milk. Avoid drug or discontinue nursing until
you finish medicine. Consult doctor for advice on maintaining
milk supply.

Others:
Some of these agents may accumulate in the urinary bladder. To
decrease chance of excessive radiation, drink 8 oz. of fluid
every hour for 10 to 12 hours following the test, unless
otherwise specified by your doctor.
